<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rod Squad has had a connection with the Hope Centre\u00a0at Warrawong NSW through Jeff Dakers and ‘The Preachers’ hot rod club.\u00a0 Jeff participated in our Chapel Services at the last two Street Rod Nationals at the Gold Coast and Newcastle. \u00a0A couple of\u00a0our members had the opportunity to visit\u00a0the Hope Centre\u00a0and had a tour of the facility.\u00a0 Check them out at\u00a0\u00a0 www.hopecentre.com.au\/<\/p>\n
The Hope Centre is a food rescue and training not for profit organisation.\u00a0The Food Barn is run by the Hope Centre and has been providing affordable and healthy food to\u00a0the region’s most marginalised people as well as those going through a tough period. The Centre also runs regular training courses for the unemployed and focuses on getting them job ready as well as providing work placements.<\/p>\n
Another part of the operation is a programme where 15 volunteers are working together to build a drag car from scratch that will be run at Eastern Creek.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Over the 6 months the volunteers will learn mechanics, warehousing as well as soft skills (life skills) training. The project will encourage intergenerational dialogue reducing the divide between the old and young.<\/p>\n
The car for this\u00a0project is a VG Valiant coupe\u00a0which will use\u00a0running gear from an\u00a0FG Falcon XR6 Turbo Police chaser donor car.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Mods will include new engine and gearbox mounts and modification to front half of the tunnel, fitting of rack and pinion\u00a0steering from FG and one piece tail shaft into a nine inch diff.\u00a0 The body will be sand blasted, rust repaired and painted. \u00a0New upholstery, and bumpers rechromed etc.
\nTime frame\u00a0for completion\u00a0is early 2016.<\/p>\n
The Preachers Hot rod club is\u00a0also an integral part of the Hope Centre, and\u00a0have had a number of hot rod displays in the car park out front.<\/p>\n
